Avoiding Foods That Carry Secret Fats
Posted on 14 March 2011
Nowadays, staying fit and slim is a general concern in society. People watch their diet and physiques by eating healthy, organic foods and consistently exercising. They also empower themselves by reading and learning how to achieve mental, emotional and physical fitness. People’s knowledge, however, may not be entirely accurate.
For example, they encourage us to eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids which is good for the heart.
Because of this fatty acid, eating sushi rolls at Japanese restaurants should therefore be healthy. However, since some sushi rolls are lathered in cream cheese or mayonnaise, this increases the fat content of the dish.
Other ways of serving sushi includes frying them, or covering them with batter. Anything fried as we all know, is bad for our cholesterol levels.
Time and again, we have been advised against snacking heavily. Nevertheless, snacking on foods like crackers and dried fruits are considered okay. Lately however, dried fruits have been found to actually contain added calories because it is denser than fresh fruits and because of the sugar used in drying them.
In the past, granola was also considered a healthy food perfect for dieting and light snacking. Granola is indeed healthy, but one must be wary of its calories and fat due to the added sugar of the bars. A home-made granola with oatmeal, fruits and honey is the wiser choice compared to the commercially sold ones.
Some foods for lunch and dinner can likewise be deceiving to the eye. Contrary to common knowledge, a veggie burger for example is not a healthy choice at all because it has many bad qualities to it.
People think that vegetable patties do not have cholesterol and fat like meat burgers. What some don’t know is that they may have more calories than the latter due to the cheese and dressing that binds the whole patty together. Again, vegetable is good for you, but certain cheeses and dressings are not.
Researching the proper content and breakdown of our foods enable us to make healthy choices in staying slim and fit.
